I may add more to this later on, possibly in this post or in separate posts in the future (depending on if anyone posts after me, I suppose XD). I seriously feel like I come up with new headcanons for Al almost every day, so I know not all of my headcanons will be listed here. I'm also starting off rather slowly too.
First off, I'll post the aging chart I posted on the other Hetalia site I co-staff at -
Appearance of 2 years old - At the time of his first memories at Roanoke island in the 1580s
Appearance of 3 years old - When he first meets Arthur in Jamestown in 1607
Appearances between 4 and 6 years old - He ages slowly and steadily, about 1 physical year for every 25 to 30 years. His physical appearance is at age 6 at 1700.
Appearances between 7 and 8 - The first half of the 18th century he appears at these ages, again aging gradually. He is physically at age 8 around 1760...and that's when things begin to speed up
Appearance of 9 years old - 1764-1765
Appearance of 10 years old - 1766
Appearance of 11 years old - 1767-1768
Appearance of 12 years old - 1769
Appearance of 13 years old - 1770-1772
Appearance of 14 years old - 1773 - April 18, 1775
Appearance of 15 years old - April 19, 1775 to July 3, 1776 (if you know some about the American Revolution, you'll recognize the significance of these dates in particular XD)
Appearance of 16 years old - July 4, 1776 to 1803 (Louisiana Purchase)
Appearance of 17 years old - 1803 (again, Louisiana Purchase) to 1877
Appearance of 18 years old - 1878 - 1941
Appearance of 19 years old - Entrance into World War II onward to the present
Yes, this means he's due to turn a physical age of 20 within the next decade or two, based on the pattern he's been showing post Revolution.
Now for the assorted headcanons. Some are serious, some are random, some are just...I don't even know. I've actually come to realize that a lot of these have to do with his mental state too...I've always enjoyed psychology with my characters. Go fig. >.> <.<
- Alfred is left-handed. My reasoning for this is the large number of recent presidents in the United States who were/are left-handed (or, in the case of Reagan, ambidextrous). Out of the five most recent presidents, only Bush was right-handed. It's also a contention point between Alfred and Arthur in my headcanon. Left-handedness was not only frowned upon, but VERY actively discouraged until more recent years. Both England and his instructors forced Alfred to use his right hand in his lessons and hands on activities, something that Alfred never quite picked up on. As a result, he fared poorly in most hands on activities as a child. He also took to practicing with his left hand behind people's backs when he was young, a hint toward the rebellious nature he'd possess as he grew older.
- The one subject he did master with his right hand as well as his left was shooting a gun. Alfred is completely ambidextrous when it comes to shooting, though it took him a lot of hard work to get there.
- Alfred is majorly claustrophobic, and not just in the literal sense, but the metaphorical sense as well. He doesn't like actual enclosed spaces, yes, but he also doesn't like the idea of feeling trapped or helpless in any way. This doesn't manifest itself in outright panic attacks, of course. But you will notice that, if Alfred feels trapped, he'll show signs of being extremely antsy. He'll move around a lot, he'll talk even more than usual, and he'll show his discomfort in his own special way.
- He has major commitment issues. He loves companionship, but, again, hates feeling trapped. It's a delicate balance. Alfred likes knowing he's cared for, but if he feels like he's stuck in a relationship, it's natural for him to push away.
